"Pauline, a female octopus in Dutch captivity, has predicted victory for the Netherlands in Sunday’s World Cup final against Spain, contradicting Paul the "psychic" German octopus after whom she was named."

Now a Dutch female octopus has proven itself to be a true patriot - it has predicted a Dutch victory in the World Cup final.

The octopus, named Pauline, in the Sea Life aquarium in Scheveningen in The Hague contradicted Paul the 'psychic' octopus which resides in a German aquarium. Paul had predicted a Spain victory.

"She chose the Netherlands," Maaike Schroeder, spokeswoman for the Sea Life aquarium said.

However, four-year-old Pauline has no track record as it was her first attempt at divinition.

The Dutch aquarium used the same method that was used in Germany and Pauline chose the mussel in the Dutch box.

"Pauline may also have plumped for the Dutch but given that she is in captivity in the Netherlands she may have opted for the safety first option by choosing the 'Oranje'."
